EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT WITH JASON LAURITSEN

If you have ever heard Jason Lauritsen speak, you might be familiar with the message ringing in your ears as you leave the venue. One that resonates so profoundly with your own beliefs. It seems so obvious in hindsight, so deeply impactful that you can clearly see what practical next steps you need to take in order to improve your business. The simple message?

Work is a RELATIONSHIP, not a CONTRACT.

In the workplace of yesteryear employees were expected to give their 9-5 fully to the company and was contractually obligated to do so. Unfortunately, with tech evolving so quickly, the workplace has been slow to catch up. We moved from companies almost tricking employees to give more of their “discretionary effort” in order to be more productive. Then, we embraced the “employee engagement” movement which incorporates a bit more of work-life balance. This is all progress, but slow nonetheless.

Jason has a vision for a whole new form of employee experience design (EXD) and the foundation starts with relationships. “Would you treat your spouse the same way you treat your employees?” he jokes. This brings to light the idea that if we treat people with more respect and patience, if we view them as a friend or family member, we’d be more interested in how they are doing instead of what they can do.

In this interview, Jason outlines practical ways that you can get started today in making a positive impact on your employees.
