INTRO TO THE METAVERSE – VESTRA ACADEMY AT HARVARD

WEB 3.0, THE METAVERSE, AND THE FUTURE OF EMPLOYMENT

I was privileged to be invited to speak to young entrepreneurs of the Vestra Academy summer program at Harvard University. The big question is…what is the Metaverse anyway?

First off, the Metaverse doesn’t exist yet. We are still building it. So all this is all speculation and is subject to change Second off, the Metaverse ship is sailing. It’s not slowing down. Now is your time to jump on board. This is how the younger generation will shape its experience with the future of work and employee experience design.

I know the Metaverse seems far-distant and utopian, and one can argue that there is no reason to be hasty, when it comes to us, we’ll embrace it, but look at the opportunities companies missed at the birth of the internet? I’d invite you to look closely at the real problems your employees are facing. Do you really think designing better experiences is going to be enough, when they just don’t like their boss or the work they are required to do? What if they can’t access the info they need? What if…

The point is, we can try and solve all the persistent problems of the corporate workplace, or we could embrace an entirely new model that rids the workforce of their least favorite aspects of corporate structure.

Whether you want to choose the Metaverse or not, I’m afraid it’s not up to you, employees will choose it, as they are choosing distributed, remote opportunities instead of listening to the boss tell them to come back to work.

You HAVE to evolve into this new style if you are to remain relevant in any way. It’s the employee’s choice, and let’s stop calling them employees, they are contributors, compensated through ownership of their work, and…

A lot of great questions asked from these bright young minds. What a great program to be a part of!
